Mansfield State Historic Site

This 44 acre state park and museum informs visitors of the climactic Battle of Mansfield during the Civil War. The Mansfield State Historic Site features a museum exhibiting Civil War weapons, uniforms and their related artifacts. There are also walking tours and demonstrations of Civil War era life throughout the year, and every five years The Battle of Mansfield is reenacted.

Original DeSoto Parish Courthouse

Built in 1843, this incredible structure is one of only two log courthouses in Louisiana, and the first ever in DeSoto Parish.

While in the area, take LA 5 northwest of Mansfield to the Historic Town of Keatchie for glimpses of antebellum life. Keatchie is also the site of a Confederate Cemetery and contains several beautiful plantation homes. You will also find nearby the site of Keatchie College. Just 7 miles north of Mansfield is the Historic Village of Grand Cane. Specialty shops and a restaurant are in the preserved main street buildings of Grand Cane.

Logansport is home to many historical sites, including:

Logan’s Ferry

This strip of land, first established in the 1800’s was one of the few ferry crossings along the Sabine River.

US Boundary Line

In 1840, this marker was set up to designate the separation between the United States and the Republic of Texas.

Grave of Moses Rose

Located east of Logansport in the Funston Community, this is the resting place of the lone survivor of the Battle of the Alamo. Soldier or traitor ? You decide.

Old Spanish Trail Ride

Held the first weekend in February, this festival is the beginning of the Old Spanish Trail Riding Association’s seven day journey by horse from Logansport to Houston along the Old Spanish Trail.

Other attractions and celebrations in Logansport include Main Street Celebrates. This open house of downtown Logansport merchants takes place the second Saturday of November. It is the kickoff of Logansport’s annual Christmas celebration. The first full weekend in May is the date for River City Fest, held on the Sabine riverfront. For more information, contact:
